The DJO Team Physician Travelling Fellowship is a sports traumatology program proposed initially by EFOST (European Federation of Sport Traumatology).
It creates the opportunity for two orthopedic surgeons to make an exchange travel between Europe & the USA, focused on the role of team physicians and the medical organization of sport clubs. As some popular sports are not similar in the US and Europe, it is clearly beneficial for applicants to visit sports medicine centres and share experiences with high level sport medical teams.
In each place, the fellows will have the opportunity to visit the medical department of professional and/or amateur teams; they will attend and assist to medical care to athletes. Academic sessions are planned with local physicians: clinical cases study and scientific lectures related to sport injuries.
Depending on the program, they will assist operative sessions too. They will attend at practices and/or games.
Fellows have to write a report of their trip in both the EFOST and DJO e-letters .They are invited to lecture during the EFOST bi-annual meeting at the end of their trip.
They will be also invited to participate to the AOSSM meeting in summer time.
The expenses are supported by and EFOST.
Application is made through the EFOST web site (www.efost.org) for the next 2012 US tour which will start at the AOSSM specialty day (during the AAOS meeting in San Francisco).
At that time, the US sport season is on the run. Applicants must be orthopaedic surgeons under 40 years.
Selection will be based upon publications in the sport medicine field and involvement as a team physician.
