After the First World Congress which was held in Palma De Mallorca in May 1992, Dr.Paessler and Dr.Imbert suggested the idea of the new organization of Sports Traumatology in Europe including different nations through north, east, south, west, or middle Europe.
This was a formation of a new society in sports trauma consisting of national sports trauma societies from the European countries. This new group planned to be a federation, not an individual society. After this organization, EFOST board meeting was held in Santa Marguarita, Genova at the Hotel Miramare in September 1993 with the delegates from different national sports trauma societies. A constitution for an European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedic Sports Traumatology (EFOST) was accepted as a conclusion of this inaugural general assembly. The goal of EFOST was determined as bringing the Sport Traumatology Federations together and spreading its concept throughout Europe.
Second general assembly was held at the second congress of the European Federation of National Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) in 1995, in Munich.
The first Specialty Day Meeting in Munich, which was followed by the other meetings in 1997 Barcelona, in 1999 Brussels and in 2001 Rhodes. In Helsinki EFORT Congress 2003 EFOST organized the Sports Traumatology Specialty Day. The coordinators was; Dr.M.N. Doral, Dr.Benazzo, Dr. J.C. Imbert, E.Brunet-Guedj. The last Congress of EFORT was held in Lisboa in june 2005. The programme coordinators of the EFOST Specialty Day were Dr. Benazzo and Dr. Huylebroek.
The efforts to spread the European Journal of Sports Traumatology and Related Research, and the official publication of EFOST, have carried on under the educational directory of Dr. Fabricciani and Dr. Paessler with Dr. Bennazo as a secretary in the very last GOTS Meeting in June 28-30, 2001 Munich
The 5th General Assembly of EFOST was held in Pavia in June 2005. The goal of the last meeting was to change the old status and to make the reorganization of EFOST.
